![]() If I have to EVERY TIME come up with some crazy new method to attack him, Ima dry up and run out of ideas faster than SpongeBob and Patrick under that lamp in shell city. My main and big reason is just that it makes his combat a bit stale. Fucker thinks he can get 2 feats and suddenly the DM can't touch him!?!? THE HERESY!!! Just cause you read a forum that says Sentinal + Polearm makes you invincible means you are better than me? Boi I will beat you at your own game just you the fuck watch me. Worked like a dream! Overall its been fun challenging this player, I am always trying to find new ways!īTW the bragadocious part is the player, not his character. MMM! Actually I did that darkness thing the other day! My sorcerer can see through darkness and he cast it in an area that I more or less backed him into it. Not every monster will have standing leap, but some fights might have multiple floors and some bat-shit crazy fiend may be ok with just throwing themselves at him. My plan is the monster will make use of that leap to maximize terrain and get after him in ways he thought he was safe originally. I don't want the beast to just leap up and straight down onto him that's stupid and forced. By doing this though, I hope he will begin to question and think about terrain more. ![]() His combat style literally is to turtle up into a corner and stop anything coming close, sometimes ignoring his parties positioning. I did want to find a way that, just maybe a few times, show him this isn't an impenetrable shield against every melee creature without reach, and swarming him looks targeted. and its been good! He has though, gotten FAR too complacent and braggadocios as a player that "nothing can harm him" in a 1 on 1 fight as nothing can get close. I will play around with this and see what I can make! The player isn't the most argumentative so if he gives some pushback, a logical argument should suffice.Īs for your second point, there are plenty of other ways I have challenged him: ranged monsters, AoE, other reach creatures ect. Thank you, I forgot about forced movement. what happens? Gravity says "nah" and the goat lookin fiend just chills in mid air? Does it hit him back up or just knock him to the ground outside of the reach? It impale the fiend and hold it at the end? I actually liked this last one if I have to make my own solution, make the spear be grappled or somethin. ![]() This stops any movement they may have been taking. Whenever you hit a creature with an opportunity attack, its speed drops to 0 for the rest of the turn.BUT: What about from above? Theres some terrain here, what if my monster tries to leap right onto the player? Does Sentinel stop them mid air or something? Sentinel states: I can already tell that if the monster leaps directly at my player, Sentinel + Reach + Polearm Master will kick in and stop the monster dead in its tracks. The bulezau's long jump is up to 20 feet and its high jump is up to 10 feet, with or without a running start. In the Bulezau's abilities, it has Standing Leap I have an encounter planned in a typical dungeon setting where they will Fight Rutterkin and a beefed up Bulezau. I wanna mess with that a bit, make him shake up his game. Pretty damn strong, and he relies on it very very heavily. ![]() One of my players has Sentinal as a Polearm master Paladin.
